THANKSGIVING is our national holiday highlighting gratitude. I am holding my gratitude for my current life situation as a privilege.
I have a roof over my head and my other material needs are met. I have a career that brings me great satisfaction and the opportunity to bring godliness into the world. I have a family that I love and, strangely enough, loves me in return.
All these things ground me and not only enable, but require, me to recognize and deeply feel today’s gratitude and then to bring that feeling with me into the days ahead.
So, yes, this year we are living in a state of unease, discontent, frustration, anger, great inequality and outright fear. It is our recognition of our own privilege and our propensity toward gratitude that will enable us to get through.
That — and speaking out and showing up!
May we all have a joyful and meaningful Thanksgiving.
